Behind the Bottle

A long overdue blog! Going hand in hand with a website update (see the page behind this blog title). A long, unusually hot English summer has left been a fantastic year for grapes. We harvested around a month earlier than usual, with great yields and pretty perfect ripeness. Thanks again to our volunteers, faces old and new, who helped us bring in the bumper crop. A late change of winery this year too, which brings change and opportunity, as our grapes head down to Devon for processing. Our sparkling Rosé from 2021 sold our in record time, so we have more on the way. The Bacchus is getting low, so thankfully we had a great crop (and might even be able to do something fun with some of it - watch this space). Tim Wildman MW helped us pick the Schonburger, destined for his fantastic Lost in a Field Pet Nat, Some Schonburger found its way to Devon too, where it is busy fermenting in oak barrels for something special. Harvest is done, but the year is far from over - keep an eye out for us at the various local markets on the run in to Christmas, Finally, the Rosé may be out, but watch out for the imminent release of our 2021 white sparkling - aged on the lees for 3 years (as per the requirement for vintage champagne).
